Travertine is the go-to around pools. It stays measurably cooler on bare feet, the honed surface is naturally slip resistant when wet, and the color palette reads high-end without looking manufactured.
Concrete pavers win on cost, color consistency and pattern options. For driveways and large patios where budget matters, a quality concrete paver installed on the right base will outlast poured concrete by decades.
Both fail the same way when the base is skipped. Excavated depth, compacted aggregate in lifts, a screeded bedding layer and edge restraint on every open edge — that's what keeps a field tight through storm season.
Sealing is optional but useful. On travertine it deepens color and slows staining; on concrete pavers it protects pigment from UV fade and helps joints stay locked.
If you're torn, mix them: travertine on the pool deck where feet are bare, concrete pavers on the driveway where trucks park. We do that combination constantly.
